Academic Research

While the university's license for SOLIDWORKS is strictly academic and primarily intended for coursework and instructional purposes, it can be used for limited academic research provided the answer is "no" to the following questions:

  1. Will any profit be made from this research?
  2. Will you be applying for any patents as a result of this research?
  3. Will any entity outside of the university benefit directly from this research?

If the answer is "no" to any of the above or if you are still unsure if your research falls within the scope of our academic license, you can submit a ticket through software.vt.edu/help and the Software Licensing Team can provide further assistance or request a quote for a research license.
